Who Is Jesus?
Jesus of Nazareth was a first-century Jewish teacher who was crucified under Roman authority. The New Testament proclaims him as the promised Messiah, the Son of God, the Word made flesh, and the risen Lord. Christians worship him as truly divine and truly human, the one who reveals God and reconciles people to God.
Jesus in history and Scripture
The Gospels present Jesus as a real person rooted in Israel's story. He taught about God's kingdom, welcomed people pushed to the margins, confronted hypocrisy, healed the suffering, and called people to repentance, faith, and a new way of life.
The earliest Christian witnesses testified that he was crucified, buried, seen alive after his death, and worthy of trust and worship.
His identity and work
Jesus reveals what God is like through his words, compassion, holiness, and self-giving love. Christians believe that through his death he dealt with sin and through his resurrection he defeated death, opening the way to forgiveness, restored relationship with God, and lasting hope.
What it means to know him
Knowing Jesus is more than collecting facts about him. Christianity invites you to listen to his teaching, bring him your questions, trust his grace, and learn to follow him.
A thoughtful place to begin is to read one of the Gospels, such as Mark or John, while asking what Jesus reveals about God and what response he invites.
