How to handle a difficult coworker as a Christian.
On this page
A place to begin
Identify the behavior that is making the work difficult, address it directly when appropriate, and agree on a concrete next step. You can be patient without accepting every disruption. Christian kindness includes truthful communication, fair expectations, and seeking help when a pattern cannot be resolved between you.

Review what happened and what the task requires before deciding how to respond.
You may enjoy the work but dread the handoff. A coworker misses details, interrupts, or leaves you carrying unfinished tasks. After a while, even a simple message can feel loaded.
Begin with the part you can describe accurately. 'The file arrived after the agreed time twice this week' opens a more useful conversation than 'You never care about anyone else.'
Describe the problem without deciding their motives
Choose one recent example and explain its effect on the work. Ask whether there is information you are missing. A confusing process, a different understanding of the deadline, and unwillingness to follow through require different responses.
Listening does not require you to abandon the concern. Try, 'When the details come after the handoff, I have to redo the schedule. What would help us get them in before that point?' Keep the question tied to an observable result.
Make the next agreement visible
Agree on who will do what and by when. If the task crosses several people, put the handoff in the shared process rather than relying on a private understanding. Briefly confirming an agreement is different from building a case against someone.
If the pattern continues, involve the person responsible for the work with relevant facts and a request for a workable arrangement. Harassment, threats, or other serious misconduct deserve appropriate reporting; you are not required to handle those alone in order to appear gracious.
Scripture in context
Open a passage to read the Bible text and its surrounding chapter here on AskJesus. The notes below explain how it connects with this question; they are reflections, not Bible quotations.
Ephesians 4:25-32
Paul connects truthful speech with words that build up rather than harm. Honesty and kindness belong together in the life of the community.
Proverbs 18:13
The proverb cautions against answering before listening. Understanding the actual problem should come before a confident judgment.
Romans 12:18
Paul encourages peace within what is possible and what depends on you. A peaceful intention does not give you control over another person's choices.
What to do with this today

Name responsibilities and expectations so a practical agreement can replace avoidable confusion.
Choose one example
Name the behavior, its timing, and its effect. Leave assumptions about motives out of your opening sentence.
Ask a practical question
Find out whether expectations, capacity, or the handoff itself are unclear. Listen for something you can actually address.
Agree on the handoff
Specify the owner, information needed, and deadline. Confirm the agreement in the normal shared work channel.
Respond to the pattern
Notice whether follow-through improves. If it does not, seek appropriate help with the arrangement instead of repeating the same frustrated exchange.
Pause & pray
A prayer for this moment
Father, help me speak clearly without contempt. Give me patience to listen, courage to address what is not working, and wisdom to know when I need help. Keep frustration from deciding how I treat this person. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
A question to sit with
What specific behavior needs a conversation, and what practical agreement would improve the next handoff?
Common questions
Does being Christian mean I should avoid conflict at work?
No. A respectful conversation can prevent resentment and confusion. The aim is to address the work honestly without humiliating the person.
What if my coworker becomes defensive?
Return to the specific example and the needed agreement. You do not have to settle every disagreement immediately. If a direct conversation is unproductive or unsafe, use the appropriate support or reporting process.

Document the next step and use appropriate support if the pattern continues.
